Ukhrul, November 05 2015:
The Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) along with Tangkhul frontal organizations including the chairmen of all four zones of Ukhrul in a co-ordination meeting held on November 2, has unanimously decided not to expel NPF MLA Samuel Risom.
In a statement TNL said that a team of TNL personally met Samuel Risom and asked him to produce the detailed documents and prove the authenticity of his resignation before the Tangkhul community.
Relevant documents like the MLA's personal resignation letter, joint resignation letters, joint press communiques of NPF MLAs against the 'anti tribal Bills' and a joint memorandum submitted to the Union Home Minister to dismiss the Ibobi led Government were produced before the TNL team, it stated.
The TNL accordingly convened a formal co-ordination meeting with all Tangkhul frontal organizations on November 2 at the TNL office chaired by president Weapon Zimik.
The same documents were produced during the meeting and it was unanimously accepted that the documents were genuine and accordingly it was resolved to 'exempt/debar the NPF MLA Samuel Risom from expulsion' after clearing the doubts of his resignation submitted to the Speaker of the Assembly.
On October 20, the TNL issued an official declaration expelling the two Congress MLAs, Preshow Shimray and Victor Keishing while NPF MLA Samuel Risom was given 15 days time to prove his resignation.
However, it may be mentioned that the NPF MLA Samuel Risom is yet to vacate the quarters and shun the Government benefits enjoyed by being a member of Manipur State Legislative Assembly.
TNL president Weapon Zimik maintained that Samuel Risom has assured to abide by the instructions of UNC and TNL decision to resign from the Assembly.
Interacting with this correspondent a number of Ukhrul people said it is the duty of everyone to defend their rights but questioned why only the Tangkhul community should safeguard the rights of the tribals of Manipur.
Some people also pointed out the decision of the Young Paite Association (YPA) to socially boycott Phungzathang Tonsing and Vungzagin Valte for favouring the 'anti-tribal Bills' in October.
