Imphal, November 05 2015:
A one-day discussion programme on peaceful coexistence among the ethnic groups of the State was held today at Andro Torongthel community hall, Imphal East.
The programme was jointly organised by Manipur Peace and Integrity (MAPI) Council and Andro Torongthel Meira Paibi.
Speaking at the occasion, president of MAPI Council, N Bimol Meetei said that hill and valley people of the State, with diverse cultures, have been living together in peace for more than 2000 years.
Each community has protected and preserved their culture and identity.
Unfortunately, external elements have threatened the cordial relations among various ethnic communities of the State, he said.
A story or history of 30 years old cannot destroy the integrity of Manipur.
The long history of Manipur can never be overlooked, Bimol said.
He also observed that ethnic polarisation became more palpable after Manipur merged with the Indian Union.
Bimol further said he was happy to see that people of that area are living together in peace.
He also added that minority communities have a great role to play in maintaining the integrity of the State.
HRD secretary of UCM, BM Yaima Shah said people of the State should remain alert and collectively face any threat to the integrity of the State.
He stressed the need to chart a future roadmap based on historical facts.
Saying that the UCM will organise a mass peace rally in mid November, Yaima Shah appealed to all concerned to join the rally.
RT Ngersison Koireng said the age-old unity of the people of the State cannot be broken by external force or influence.
He stressed the need to take a united stand by all concerned, face any challenge to the integrity of the State and maintain peaceful coexistence.
