Students, teachers rescue fledgling egret

A fledgling egret (Urok) rescued by students and teachers of Lilong Haoreibi College (LHC), which was then handed over to members of Joint Co-ordination Committee on Wildlife and Biodiversity (JCCWB) Manipur, has been put in the custody of Manipur Zoological Garden Veterinary Hospital on Sunday.
Speaking to media persons, JCCWB convenor Romesh Ningthoujam informed that the bird was found as a hatchling at the foothills of Angtha hill in dire condition by faculty and students during an educational tour of LHC Department of BVoc Agriculture to KVK, Andro on May 15.The bird was then rescued by them and after feeding it for 30 days till it gained health, handed over to JCCWB by Lilong Haoreibi College Alumni Association president Mohamad Nasir Khan and BVoc Agriculture faculty and students on Sunday.
Romesh further informed that the bird has been handed over to Manipur Zoological Garden Veterinary Hospital for further treatment.
He also thanked the LHC students and teachers for rescuing the bird along with Md Tamijur Rahaman of Lilong Bazar for taking care of the bird.
Nature Vanguard Force secretary Ch Shantosh Meitei, LHC assistant professors Laiphrakpam Pinky Chanu, Leitam Chanu Olivia, Ph Faqiha, Dr S Khurshida, Mustakim and non-teaching staff were present during the handing over of the egret.
