AR seizes areca nuts, organises interaction prog

Imphal, September 14 2023: Troopers of Assam Rifles on Thursday seized a total of 100 bags of areca nuts, valued at Rs 96 lakh, in Kamjong district.

According to IGAR (S), based on reliable input about movement of contraband items along Indo-Myanmar border, a team of Assam Rifles was activated to dominate the suspected area.

On thorough search, 100 bags of suspected areca nuts were found being illegally smuggled in two Shaktiman trucks in the general area of Shangka Lok Nala (near BP-98) through international border towards Indian side, the PRO informed, adding that the seized contraband along with the trucks and detainees have been handed over to Forest Department, Kamjong for further legal proceedings.

On the other hand, Assam Rifles organised meeting with CSOs at the company operating base (COB), Thoubal on Wednesday.

The meet was attended by over 50 representatives of CSOs, ESMs, Meira Paibi and additional SP along with Thoubal police station OC and other influential people during which a wide range of important issues like security, peace and progress apart from issues of concern for the local populace of Manipur in the prevailing situation in state were discussed.

A similar meet was also held at Moreh on Wednesday between representatives of Kuki Inpi Tengnoupal and new Kuki Liaison Post AR commandant during which enhancing cooperation and addressing pertinent community-related issues were discussed.

Meanwhile, under the aegis of IGAR (S), troopers of AR felicitated St Joseph College cadets of 65 NCC Manipur Girls Battalion Ukhrul unit on Wednesday, the PRO informed, adding that, "B" and "C" certificate were distributed to 33 girl cadets.

On the occasion, Commandant Somsai Battalion extended his best wishes and motivated the cadets to pursue career in the Armed Forces, the PRO informed, adding that, Somsai battalion has been encouraging and extending administrative assistance to the cadets in their basic training and outdoor camps on a regular basis.
