Imphal, September 14 2023:
An 'imposter' who masqueraded as a staff of JNIMS Hospital has been implicated in the death of a patient.
Briefing media persons today, JNIMS Director Professor L Deben identified the deceased patient as one Nahakpam Memchoubi (70) of Langthabal Mantrikhong, Imphal West.
Memchoubi was brought to JNIMS Casualty in the morning of September 11 and she died at around 1.30 pm on the same day.
On receiving a written complaint from the family members that Memchoubi died due to laxity on the part of JNIMS doctors and nurses, the hospital authority carried out an investi- gation, Prof Deben said.
Family members of Memchoubi requested the doctors and nurses on duty to assist oxygen supply to the patient through an oxygen mask.
The doctors, after checking the oxygen level which was around 95/96, said that the patient did not need oxygen mask.
In the meantime, one individual who masqueraded as a staff of JNIMS Hospital came to the scene and scold-ed both the patient and her family with strong words.
The imposter's strong words created a very distressing impression on the patient and her condition suddenly grew critical.
She died shortly after despite the best efforts given by JNIMS doctors and nurses to save her, Prof Deben said.
It was a very tragic incident, he said.
Subsequent upon the tragic death, top ranking officials of the hospital held a meeting today and decided to prohibit unrecognised people from attending to patients inside the hospital in any manner.
Informing that the individual who masqueraded as JNIMS staff has been identified, Prof Deben said that a complaint has been filed at the police station concerned against the imposter.
