Imphal, March 24 2024:
Keeping in view of the current unrest situation in the state, Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) has resolved to suspend this year's Kanglei Mega Sports Festival, which is organised every year during Yaoshang Festival.
Addressing a press meet at its office at Khoyathong, here on Sunday, KSA secretary general Sanjoy Khullakpam said that the sports festival was an idea to divert the attention of youth and children from the usual festivities of Yaoshang, which has become a factor of degrading morality and crimes in the society.
However, the state is facing an unprecedented crisis for the last 10 months in the form of aggression by Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists due to which thousands of families have been displaced and hundreds of civilians killed.
Considering the situation, KSA feels that organising festival or sports would not be a right decision and the association has resolved to forego the sports festival this year, the secretary general said.
He further appealed to the people of the state to skip all sorts of festivities and Yaoshang traditions including Thabal Chongba as well as sports meet as a mark of solidarity to the displaced people and families, who have lost their near and dear ones.
Violators of this appeal would bear the consequence of any reactions, Sanjoy said.
He also appealed to the educational institutes of both private and government to organise extra classes during the holiday period to fill up loss times due to the crisis.
