Looms distributed to women IDPs under NHDP

Looms were distributed to internally displaced women by Weavers' Service Centre under the aegis of the Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles at the Ideal College, Akampat relief camp on Monday.
Speaking at the distribution programme held under the National Handloom Development Programme (NHDP), Textiles Ministry's deputy director Priyadarshi Daripa explained that women weavers are being provided benefits under the scheme to help them upgrade technology for producing high-quality handloom items.
She also mentioned that the Ministry has approved proposal for extension of the scheme to three relief camps in Imphal East district.

Further stating that total of 146 beneficiaries staying in relief camps have benefited from the scheme, the deputy director informed that the Ministry has assured of continuing support to women weavers in the relief camps.
One B Ashaprem Devi, who is general secretary of Lingjel Thoibi SHG Khongman Zone II, shared that when she was volunteering at the relief camp, an application was submitted for providing looms to women weavers after they had received training.
As a result, 55 looms were handed over on Monday with 26 earmarked for weavers of Langol relief camp.
Yarn cards will also be provided to the women weavers, allowing them to purchase yarn at subsidised rates, she said while adding that insurance policies will be offered to women weavers, and assistance provided to help them sell their products.
