AR conducts wreath laying ceremony

Imphal, September 30 2024: Assam Rifles conducted a wreath laying ceremony at Modi village in Chandel district in honour of rifleman Martoba Ao, who laid down his life in thte service of the nation.

In a release, PRO IGAR (S) informed that on September 30, 2007, inputs were received about presence of 8-10 insurgents in Hiyanglam area and a party was sent to neutralise the insurgents.

After reaching Umathel, the party came under heavy fire by a group of insurgents to which rifleman Martoba Ao exhibited sheer courage in the face of enemy and fired back at the enemy.

In the firefight, he suffered a gunshot wound and made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of nation, recounted the PRO.
