Sit-in decries killing, detention of VVs

Imphal, January 29 2025: A sit-in protest was held at Public Club in Top Khongnangkhong on Wednesday in denunciation of the killing of a student by Manipur police commandos near Salungpham School in Thoubal district last December and the continued detention of six village volunteers.

Speaking on the sidelines of the protest organised by Women Development Committee (WDC) and Public Club, Top Khongnangmak-hong, WDC president Keisham Shanti decried the arrest of Meetei village volunteers during this time of the crisis which has been persisting since May 3, 2023.She also expressed her deep sorrow over the recent killing of a student by Thoubal police commandos, followed by the arrest of six village volunteers, and called for the unconditional release of the village volunteers.

The protestors used placards inscribed with messages like "We condemn the killing of students", "Village volunteers should not be arrested", "Thoubal SP should be immediately transferred to Churachandpur or Kangpokpi", "Police commandos involved in the killing of student should be terminated", "Repeal AFSPA-1958" and "Unfit CM should resign immediately", etc.
