Ukhrul, April 17 2025:
Chingai MLA Khashim Vashum has urged the locals of Chingai subdivision to reflect on the barriers hindering its growth and development, despite its designation as a sub-divisional headquarters since 1969.Speaking as the chief guest at the Shar Phanit festival - a unique traditional festival of the village celebrating divine blessings for agricultural prosperity-held from April 15 to 17, Khashim expressed concern over the stagnation of the age-old sub-division.
"Chingai, as a subdivisional headquarters, is one of the luckiest of over 200 Tangkhul villages in Ukhrul district, but is still languishing in stagnation," he noted, questioning as to what is holding it back from progressing.

"Chingai was designated as a subdivision way back in 1969 .
But what has stopped it from becoming one of the most vibrant examples of growth and development? What advancements have we made in education and other sectors? Are we fully utilising our status as a subdivisional headquarters?"," he challenged the gathering.
Khashim then emphasised the need for collective action, stating, "Unless we strive for progress, merely holding the title of a subdivision will not suffice" .
He called for a united effort among the locals to work towards ensuring meaningful development, encouraging them to embrace the spirit of unity and cooperation among the locals and awaken to their potential and seize the opportunities available.
The MLA also extended warm greetings for the Shar festival to the locals, wishing for a year of bountiful harvests as envisioned by the event.
Upon Khashim's arrival at the village, he received a heartfelt welcome and was escorted to the festival venue by local residents, led by village elders and leaders in traditional attire.
The MLA hoisted the festival flag and was honoured with traditional headgear by village chief Kaphungkan.
Khashim also took part in various traditional activities, including a tug of war with the locals.
The festival featured a range of cultural songs and dance performances, showcasing the vibrant traditions of the locals.
