MCPCR asks SP to expedite probe

Imphal, October 09 2024: Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) has taken up a suo moto case in connection with the mysterious death of a young woman and her daughter at Lilong Haoreibi under Wangoi police station on September 23.According to a statement of the commission issued by programme officer, MCPCR took suo moto cognisance of the death of Ningombam Basanti, wife of late Adhikarimayum Thouba and her four-year old daughter Lanchenbi, who were reportedly found dead on their bed on September 23 morning.

A team of the commission led by chairperson Keisham Pradipkumar visited the spot on October 1 and had talks with local people and JAC representatives.

Taking into account of public apprehension of foul play in the death of the mother-daughter duo, the commission asked the Imphal West SP to speed up investigation so that culprits, if any, could be arrested and justice delivered to the victims.

The commission further advised the SP to submit-action taken report at the earliest.
