AR seized areca nuts worth ₹20.40 crore

Assam Rifles seized 1,700 bags, each weighing 100 kilograms (a total of 170,000 kilograms), of areca nuts worth Rs.20.40 crore from seven trucks in Phaikoh village, near Border Post-102 (RN 039796) .
A release issued by IGAR (S) informed that acting on credible intelligence regarding the illicit movement of contraband items along the Indo-Myanmar border, a dedicated team from Assam Rifles initiated a meticulously planned operation to establish control over the suspected area.
Following a thorough search, a staggering 1,700 bags, each weighing 100 kilograms (a total of 170,000 kilograms), of suspected areca nuts with an estimated value of approximately Rs 20.40 Crore were discovered being illicitly transported in seven trucks.
The smuggling operation was intercepted in the general vicinity of Phaikoh village, near Border Post-102 (RN 039796), as it attempted to cross the international border into Indian territory.
Subsequently, all seized areca nuts, along with the apprehended individuals and the trucks used for smuggling, were handed over to the Forest Department in Kamjong on Wednesday to facilitate further legal proceedings, it added.
