While reminding the locals that only they could protect Sugnu from aggression of Kuki militants, Crisis Management Committee (CMC), Sugnu stressed the need for the government to undertake special measures to facilitate resettlement of those displaced from Sugnu to their ancestral homes.
A public meeting held at Sugnu Keithel on Saturday with the participation of the internally displaced persons who recently returned to Sugnu in-spite of facing risk in the area, unanimously resolved to protect Sugnu.
The meet initiated by Sugnu denizens Sh Maniyai, Y Inao, Aheibam Lankeshwor and Laitonjam Joy, among others had various speakers sharing their views to deal with the problems faced by the people due to the ongoing crisis and to protect Sugnu.
In her address, CMC, Sugnu spokesperson Khaidem Bijiya appealed to Sugnu villagers who had fled due to attacks by Kuki militants from May 27, 2023 till February 14, 2023 to return to their homes and live together as in the past.
Noting that Sugnu villagers have been facing much hardship since the conflict started with no avenues to sustain their livelihood, she asked the government to continue providing basic needs which they were receiving at relief camps even after they return to their homes.
