Beware of bakery items of non-locals: FoH

Federation of Hao-mee (FoH) has cautioned the people on adverse effects to health from bakery items made by non-locals citing past many cases of expired goods sold in the hills and other areas by labelling it afresh.
In a release, FoH publicity secretary Huirem Bharat Meitei informed that consuming expired items can cause many diseases.
On August 12, it found EMA Bakery Food Products, Singjamei Makha Sorokhaibam Leikai run by a Bengali labelling expired items and reselling.
The Federation also disposed of many items from other bakeries after they found on sale after the expiry date, it maintained.
Pointing out that number of patients in state suffering from cancer, diabetics, asthma, blood pressure, heart and lungs diseases is exceptionally higher compared to other states, FoH demanded that the Food Testing Department investigate on consumption of which type of food regularly is causing rise in such diseases.
It emphasised that the people of the state consume bakery items manufactured with strict adherence to hygiene protocols and advised retailers to entertain only items manufactured by recognised bakery Owned by indigenes.
Further stating that adherence to the family planning programme has seen the Total Fertility Rate (TFR) in last decade for the state declining to 1.7, FoH conveyed apprehension that if people continue to consume quality-compromised edibles it will only lead to rise in diseases and further decline of the indigenous people of the state.
The release reiterated that people should take safety precautions immediately on the matter.
