Imphal, February 29 2024:
Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) insisted that both state and central governments should honour sentiment and demand of the people for withdrawal of the SoO pact signed with armed Kuki outfits and implementation of NRC.
While cautioning that COCOMI and the people will never remain silent if their demands are ignored, the Committee also expressed gratitude to the people for supporting the protest call for exerting pressure on the government to adopt resolution in the ongoing assembly session for revocation of the SoO pact and implement NRC in the state.
In a release, media coordinator Yumkhaibam Surjitkumar Khuman pointed out that COCOMI initiated sit-in protests in the morning and torch rally after dusk to highlight growing unrest of the people against rampant violation of the SoO ground rules and unrestrained influx of illegal immigrants into the state.
With the aim of drawing attention of the government the protestors raised slogans including 'Revoke SoO pact between India government and Kuki militants', 'Implement NRC', 'We condemn killing of students', 'We condemn vandalism at CSO offices', 'We condemn arson at school and UCM office' and 'Stop violence among blood brothers', the coordinator said.
