CM vows probe into Cheirap Court chaos

Chief Minister N Biren has informed the House that the state government is all set to register an FIR and conduct enquiry into the Cheirap Court incident.
N Biren, who is also in-charge of Home, was responding to a calling attention motion raised by Congress MLA K Meghachandra on the second day of the assembly, on Thursday in connection with the Cheirap Court incident of February 20 where central security forces used excessive force inside the court complex.
The chief minister said that on February 13, a group of mostly young individuals raided the 5th IRB camp in Chingarel Tezpur in Imphal East and seized firearms and ammunition.
Some of the arms have been recovered and 6 persons arrested and remanded for 7 days under judicial custody.
On February 20, the 6 accused were produced before the Cheirap Court and the court further remanded them to judicial custody for another 15 days.
Minutes after the decree, large number of women trooped inside the court complex locked the main gate and door of the court room.
To control the mob and take away the accused from the court complex, security forces including RAF were called in.
He further informed the House that the government is all set to register an FIR in connection with the incident and start investigation into the matter.
The government has also appealed all concerned including the police to ensure no such incidents recur inside the judiciary arena.
Earlier, MLA Meghachandra informed the House that the Cheirap Court incident which had never happened in the history of Manipur was very unfortunate and is condemned in the strongest terms.
It is questionable as to how the RAF personnel barged into the Court.
Under whose order did the RAF personnel used mock bombs and tear gas shells inside the court complex, he posed and asserted that the incident merits judicial enquiry.
