'No' central share for MGNREGS received: Khemchand

Informing that the state government did not receive the central's share of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) for the financial year 2023-24; Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (RD&PR) minister Y Khemchand has stated that the funds were not sanctioned due to non-utilisation of 75 per cent of claimed funds owing to the state government's delay in releasing the funds.
Responding to a question raised by Congress MLA Surjakumar Okram in the on-going session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly on Thursday, Khemchand explained that around 75 per cent of the claimed funds were left unutilised due to delay on the part of the Finance Department in releasing the same owing the poor economic conditions of state government.
However, the administrative department has submitted a claim proposal to the Ministry of Rural Development, he added.
The minister continued that MGNREGS has been assisting the people affected by the prevailing violence.
Under this scheme, a total of 8259 people have received special job cards and 3681 family heads provided with work.
Of the 8259 people, 2715 are from Bishnupur, 1934 from Churachandpur, 1306 from Imphal East, 586 from Imphal West, 95 from Jiribam, 1170 from Kakching, 26 from Kangpokpi, 19 from Tamenglong, 258 from Thoubal and 48 from Ukhrul district.
Under MGNREGS, the total individual assets for the financial year 2023-24 is 45, of which six is in Imphal West, 13 in Kakching, 19 in Kangpokpi, two in Senapati, three in Tengnoupal and two in Ukhrul district, he conveyed.
Khemchand further informed that for block-wise individual assents, three are in Keirao Bitra, three in Kshetrigao, five in Kakching, five in Langmeidong, four in Kangpokpi, two in Bungte Chiru, three in Champhai, three in Island, three in Lungtin, three in Saikul, one in T Vaichung, two in Song Song, three in Machin and two in Ukhrul.
