Imphal, June 22 2025:
Expressing concern over attempts made by communities, who migrated into Manipur during the 17th-19th century to distort the aged old history of the indigenous communities, Federation of Haomee (FoH) said authority of Manipur University must not remain silent on the matter.
According to a FoH statement, indigenous communities having clan systems have been living together in Manipur with history spanning over thousands of years but some migrated communities are making repeated attempts to distort the rich history of the land and its people.
"Despite knowing fully of their migrant history, some leaders of these migrant communities are writing and producing books with fabricated history primarily to keep their younger generation unaware of their migrant status," it said.
The Federation noted that as History Department of Manipur University is expected to shoulder the responsibility of giving authentication or rectification of the books written with fake/distorted history, it would be wrong for vice-chancellor of Manipur University to remain silent.
"Silence on the part of such competent authority will be akin to endorsing exploitation of the society by fake history.
It is imperative for a globally recognised university like Manipur University to preserve the history of the land strictly based on facts," the statement said.
While urging the MU authority to take the mandated role of authentication of historical events, the FoH maintained that the History Department ascertain veracity to Kukis' claim of inhabiting in Manipur from 33 AD with Yek Salai assigned by the king and ownership of land in Manipur.
The Federation also pointed out that participation of some professors of Manipur University in the centenary celebration of the non- existent Anglo-Kuki war 1917-19 gave the Kukis the righteous path for their imaginative claims, reasoning that professors concerned should have refrained from the event.
Accordingly, the VC of Manipur University should take the lead role and work towards saving indigenous peoples of the land, Federation of Haomee said.
