Imphal, August 21 2025:
Lamlai MLA Kh Ibomcha said that the North Eastern Council (NEC) has sanctioned Rs 46 crore for construction of the 18.50-kilometre road from Lamlai to Thoubal Dam.
Interacting with the media during an inspection of the road from Napet Palli to Itham Moirangpurel in Imphal East, Ibomcha said that the poor condition of roads in the state is largely due to improper construction and the failure of elected representatives to ensure good governance.
He pointed out that the Napet Palli-Itham Moirangpurel stretch has been in bad shape for a long time because of the countless trucks carrying stones for Thoubal Dam project.
He explained that most roads in the state deteriorate quickly because they are not built with proper foundations.
To improve the Lamlai-Thoubal Dam road, he said that funding had been sought from the NEC under the Ministry of DONER since 2023, but the process faced delays due to the ongoing conflict and changes in the state government.
NEC finally sanctioned Rs 46.68 crore, with the tender issued on August 8.The Work order will be given in October, and construction is expected to begin in November.
Meanwhile, the condition of Napet Palli-Itham Moirangpurel road had become so bad that truck drivers were forced to contribute their own money to carry out repairs.
The 18-kilometre stretch not only caused great inconvenience but also led to frequent accidents.
On Tuesday, members of the truck drivers' union in Moirangpurel took the initiative to repair the road with sand layering.
They received financial support and machinery from the local MLA and the MLA of Andro AC to carry out the temporary repair work.
