Imphal, June 17 2025:
Khuman United Clubs & Meira Paibi Association (KUCMA), Mayang Imphal, submitted a memorandum to the Governor, urging infrastructure upgrade of the Mayang Imphal Primary Health Centre (PHC) and appointment of a senior medical officer.
According to the memorandum, the PHC has been catering to healthcare needs of around 50,000 residents across 21 villages and serving as a vital facility due to its strategic location, connecting Mayang Imphal with Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching (Chandel) and Imphal.
It has already extended medical services to 9,567 people from 17 villages.
However, shortage of medical personnel and inadequate infrastructure remain a stumbling block in the effective delivery of services.
The memorandum also highlighted shortage of medical officers and lack of proper sanitation facilities for the staff, while pointing out the absence of adequate infrastructure for installing an X-ray machine.
Due to poor drainage, even light rainfall often leads to inundation in the area.
Additionally, the PHC buildings are in urgent need of repair, apart from the centre lacking a designated parking space and a clearly demarcated boundary.
The memorandum then urged the Governor to appoint a senior medical officer and three additional medical officers at the PHC and also called for the construction of sanitation facilities for doctors and staff, repair and activation of the X-ray machine, implementation of a proper drainage system, and renovation of the PHC rooms.
Additionally, it requested that the PHC premises be paved, the 1.22-acre area be properly fenced, and an approach road and parking space be developed, all in the interest of the people of Mayang Imphal and surrounding settlements.
