Senapati, October 09 2024:
As resolved in the 2nd assembly held on August 24, Naga Village Chief Federation Manipur (NVCM) vehemently opposed fencing of the Indo-Myanmar border in Naga inhabited areas.
A statement issued by NVCM secretary Darthot Peter pointed out that the policy of central government to construct fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border is outright infringement on rights of the Naga as enshrined in United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
NVCM said it has intimated all presidents/ chairmen/chiefs of organisations concerned not to extend cooperation to the government or any agency engaged in fencing the Indo-Myanmar border in Naga-settlements in Manipur.
He further appealed to all Naga village chiefs to abide by the directive in the interest and welfare of the Nagas.
