SFs recover arms, net KCP member, destroy poppy

Imphal, February 28 2025:
Joint security forces carried out extensive search operations and area domination in the fringe and vulnerable areas of both hill and valley districts of Manipur, leading to recovery or arms and ammunition, arrest of UG cadre and destruction of illegal poppy cultivation spanning around 50 acres.
On Thursday, acting on reliable intelligence, a team of officers and personnel of 1st IRB under the supervision of the Commandant conducted a cordon and search operation in the forest area between Songpi and Pearsonmun villages in Churachandpur district.
The operation resulted in the recovery of two Ex-Calibre firearms (registration numbers 171800725 and 141806758) without magazines, along with one country-made mortar (Pompi), four small-sized mortar rounds, one medium-sized mortar round, two Baofeng wireless sets, two bulletproof plates, eight chest posts or vests, one tactical helmet, and five 5.56mm ammunition.
All the seized items have been handed over to the Churachandpur police station.
Meanwhile, the same day, police arrested an active member of the proscribed KCP (PWG) group, identified as Mayanglambam Premkumar Singh alias Manao (27) of Kachikhul Mamang Leikai in Imphal West district from near Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak under City PS .
He was reportedly involved in extorting money from the general public in Lamsang area.
Police recovered a mobile handset, a brown wallet containing Rs 240, an Aadhaar card, and a two-wheeler.
In another development, a joint team comprising Kangpokpi district police, CRPF, Kangpokpi forest division, and SDC Saikul Block conducted a poppy destruction drive on Wednesday.
The operation targeted illegal poppy cultivation along the riverbanks of Ethoi at Somphung village in Lhungtin sub-division under Saikul PS, Kangpokpi district.
Approximately 50 acres of illegal poppy plantations were destroyed during the drive.
