Demise of writer-translator Aribam Kumar condoled

Manipur State Kala Akademi and Naharol Sahitya Premee Samiti, Imphal have expressed deep condolences over the untimely demise of writer-translator and academician Aribam Kumar Sharma, who passed away on Tuesday at his Wangkhei Thambalkhong residence.
In separate releases, Manipur State Kala Akademi and Naharol Sahitya Premee Samiti, informed that condolence meets were held during which members present observed two minutes' silence as a mark of respect and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
Born in 1941, Aribam Kumar joined the teaching profession after completing MA at Calcutta University.
He served as Manipuri Department head at GP Women's College in 1967, reader in Manipuri at DM College of Teacher Education, additional director of Department of Education (University and Higher Education) , associated with multiple literary organisations including Sahitya Akademi, The Cultural Forum, Manipur, and Writers' Forum, Imphal.
His literary work 'Numitki Taretshuba Sagol', which is Manipuri translation of Dr Bharati's novel 'Surajka Satwang Ghora' won him the Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize, 2003 with another Manipuri translation of Subodhchandra Senguptas 'Sharatchandra: Man and Artist' entitled 'Sharatchandra' securing the Manipur State Kala Akademi Award (Literature: Translation), for the year 2013 .
