Rotary Club holds installation ceremony, honours achievers

Imphal, June 28 2025:
Rotary Club of Polo City Imphal held its 16th Installation Ceremony at Sangai Hall, Hotel Imphal, North AOC, on Saturday With Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh attending as chief guest.
The ceremony marked the official swearing-in of the new team for the Rotary Year 2025-26, with Dr RK Ratankumar Singh taking over as president and Indrakumar Singh as secretary.
The new Board of Directors was also inducted during the function, which was attended by assistant governor Salam Sachhidanand, past presidents and members of the Club.
In his address, Thokchom Satyabrata lauded the Club's longstanding contributions to humanitarian causes.
He appreciated the Rotary Club of Polo City Imphal for its steadfast dedication to social service and community development, calling it a model of sustained civic engagement.
Newly installed president Dr RK Ratankumar expressed gratitude to the outgoing office bearers and introduced this year's Rotary theme, "Unite for Good".
He called upon members to reaffirm their role as "People of Action", and underlined a renewed focus on teamwork, purposeful service and tangible community impact in the year ahead.
The event also featured the presentation of four Rotary vocational and special recognition awards to individuals for their exceptional contributions in their respective fields.
Awardees included Poknapham/The People's Chronicle staff reporter Sagolsem Bigyan in print media, Priyobarta Sharma of SK TV in electronic media, Dr Gurumatum Asharani Devi in Thangta, Huyen Lallong, and Khwairakpam Budhinanda Singh in the education category for persons with disabilities.
Sagolsem Bigyan was honoured in the print media category for his outstanding contribution to journalism.
A dedicated crime reporter currently working with Poknapham and its sister publication The People's Chronicle, Bigyan began his journalistic journey in 2011 with the monthly journal Liklam.
Over the years, he has received numerous accolades, including the Bold & Brave Journalist Award 2020-21 presented by Kangleipak Students' Association and multiple State Journalist Awards from DIPR, for reporting on women, children and rural issues.
Bigyan was also conferred the Manipur Alliance for Child Rights (MACR) Award in 2017 arid the Best Reporter Award for crime reporting from a gender perspective by Women Action for Development.
A graduate in Economics Honours with a diploma in Human Rights, Bigyan was a recipient of a fellowship on scientific journalism on agriculture from Central Agricultural University in 2022 .
