Imphal, August 21 2025:
Dissatisfaction has emerged among some commando personnel over the manner in which teams stationed in Jiribam are being rotated and transferred.
The commandos were deployed as additional forces in the district after ethnic violence erupted in the state on May 3, 2023, to help maintain law and order.
According to reports, commando teams from valley districts were sent to violence-hit Moreh and Jiribam to contain the situation after clashes left many dead and injured.
During the peak of the conflict, personnel deployed as additional teams carried out their duties without seeking trans fers, recognising their responsibility in managing the unrest.
As the violence subsided, the government began rotating commando teams in the affected areas.
In Moreh, rotations take place every three months, but in Jiribam there has been no fixed system.
Initially, 10 commando teams, each comprising 7 to 8 personnel, were stationed in Jiribam.
This number increased to 17 in June 2024 .
Some of these teams have now remained in the district for more than one year and two months without rotation.
On June 21 this year, seven teams were transferred back to their original districts.
However, some of the older teams that had been stationed the lon gest were left behind, while teams that arrived later were replaced.
This has led to frustration among those who feel the rotation should be based on a proper order of transfer and deployment.
Personnel argued that older teams should be moved out first, while newer teams can continue their postings and later be rotated in due course.
The dissatisfaction is further compounded by personal challenges.
Many of the commandos currently posted in Jiribam have families, including elderly parents, and being away from home for extended periods has caused difficulties.
Some have voiced concern that despite their long service in Jiribam, the absence of a fair rotation policy has left them burdened and overlooked.
