Imphal, August 08 2025:
"If those arrested for killing my son are innocent, then I, his mother, must be in the wrong, so please kill me too," said Thiyam Karuna Devi, mother of the deceased Meitei Salai Thiyam, alias Leo, in a heartfelt plea for justice during a protest on Friday.
The protest was held on the road leading to Shree Shree Govindaji temple in Palace Compound in connection with the killing of Leo, who was stabbed to death by a woman on July 7 this year.
Interacting with the media, Karuna expressed her deep anguish over claims circulating that those involved in her son's killing are innocent.
"If they are innocent, then it is I, the mother, who is in the wrong.
Those children arrested will only be out of sight of their parents for a short while; after some time, they will get bail and come out.
But my son has been killed, and I will not be able to see him again in this life," she said.

The grieving mother stated that since she would never see her son again and if she was indeed wrong, she should also be killed to be with him.
"What is the point of my life if I live without him? I have become a mother without my child, with whom I shared all my joys and sorrows," she said.
Karuna stressed that she had not approved formation of Joint Action Committee after her son's killing, nor held multiple protests or sought to escalate the matter for public attention.
"I do not wish to cause trouble to others.
Now, the police have arrested the culprits according to the law.
In this matter, I do not want CSOs or clubs to support the culprits, but I ask them to help in bringing out the true verdict," she said.
Chipping in local Meira Paibi Lup secretary Yumnam Ibeyaima stated that police have arrested a woman named Taibanganbi, alleged to be involved in the murder.
"Now certain organisation is claiming that she is innocent 2nd was misled.
Has a judge already delivered a verdict in this case for them to asset she is innocent?" she asked, recalling that a gang of four or five people called out Leo, took him to a secluded place, and killed him.
Ibeyaima declared that the mother of the deceased and the public are united indemanding justice and a fair verdict in the case.
