Collective fight call echoed at Cancer Day event

In a resolute move to raise awareness and strengthen the fight against cancer, the District NCD (Non-Communicable Diseases) Cell of Kangpokpi District Hospital observed World Cancer Day 2025 at its conference hall on Thursday under the global theme, "United by Unique" .
The observance saw the participation of health officials, medical staff, community leaders, and concerned citizens, all united in their commitment to combat one of the leading causes of death worldwide.
The event was organised under the aegis of the National Health Mission (NHM) with an aim to reinforce the importance of early detection, prevention, and equitable access to treatment.
A symbolic ribbon wrapped around the globe, accompanied by red boxing gloves, featured prominently on the event banner - underscoring the fight against cancer as a united global struggle requiring both compassion and resilience.
Health experts present urged the public to adopt healthier lifestyles, undergo regular screenings, and support cancer patients with dignity and empathy.
They also stressed the need for continuous education and collaborative efforts between healthcare providers and communities to reduce the cancer burden in the region.
The commemorative event moderated by District NCD epidemiologist L Holminlun Khongsai had Kangpokpi chief medical officer and district malaria officer Dr Pabkai Kipgen as the chief guest.
In his address, Dr Paokai urged the community to focus on early detection, regular screening, and maintain a healthy lifestyle to prevent cancer while highlighting the importance of bridging the gap in access to care across rural and urban regions.
As the guest of honour Kangpokpi district hospital's medical superintendent in-charge Dr Nengpilhing Misao, emphasised the critical role healthcare institutions play in spreading awareness and improving outcomes through preventive programmes.
A special session was delivered by Dr Hassan Unais TP, Paediatrician from RIMS, Imphal, who served as the resource person.
He shared valuable insights on paediatric oncology and the emerging challenges in cancer prevention among younger populations.
