Ukhrul mass rally against border fencing today

Ukhrul, April 01 2025:
Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) and Tangkhul Frontal Organisations, under the aegis of the United Naga Council (UNC), are gearing up to hold a mass rally at Ukhrul district headquarters on Wednesday (April 2) .
According to TNL, the rally is in protest against the scrapping of the Free Movement Regime (FMR) and the consequential border fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border.
On Wednesday, the rally will kick off at 10:30 am, starting from two points of Dungrei Junction and Kha-rasom Junction.
The two groups will march through the town and converge at the district headquarters ground for a public meeting, where TNL president Sword Vashum will deliver the welcome address.
Local MLAs Khashim Vashum; Ram Muivah, and Leishiyo Keishing are also expected to attend to show solidarity and deliver brief speeches at the meeting, which will be joined by UNC president Ng Lorho, along with representatives from NPMHR, Naga Hoho, and the Global Naga Forum.
A memorandum will be declared during the meeting and submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through the deputy commissioner of Ukhrul district.
Meanwhile, commercial establishments and markets in the town will down their shutters during the rally and public meeting, and normal classes for Class 8 and above will also remain cancelled on Wednesday.
