Imphal, July 23 2025:
The Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Senapati, Manipur, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology (ISM), Dhanbad, Jharkhand, organised a five-day intensive boot camp workshop on 'Electronics for Unmanned Aerial Systems, Sensors, and Communication' at IIIT Manipur campus.
In a release, IIIT Manipur registrar Dr Nongmeikapam Kishorjit informed that the event brought together academic experts and armed forces to bridge the gap between cutting-edge research and practical deployment of drone technologies for defence and surveillance applications.
The workshop was aimed at providing hands-on training and theoretical grounding in the rapidly evolving domain of drone systems, focusing on the integration of sensors, communication modules, and embedded electronics that form the backbone of modern unmanned aerial systems.
135 participants, including 40 from the Assam Rifles and the Indian Army participated in the sessions, gaining in-depth knowledge on the fundamentals of drone architecture, real-time sensor interfacing, control algorithms, and secure wireless communication protocols essential for tactical operations.
The institute also stated that the sessions were conducted by experts from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, including professor Ravi Kumar Gangwar, professor Jeevesh Kumar, Dr Varun Choudhary, Dr Kundan Kumar Suman, and Aks Raj.
These resource persons delivered comprehensive lectures and demonstrations covering drone propulsion mechanisms, navigation and control systems, GPS-denied environment challenges, power optimisation strategies, and live UAV simulations.
Their inputs were tailored to both conceptual clarity and held applicability, making the workshop uniquely relevant for defence personnel.
The boot camp concluded with a valedictory function held in the IIIT Manipur auditorium, city campus, Mantripukhri on Wednesday, which was attended by the institute's director professor Krishnan Baskar, brigadier Neeraj Sharma, brigadier Robeen Chaterjee, colonel Amit Mane from Assam Rifles and HoDs of the institute along with the participants and students of the institute.
The programme was preceded by a demonstration of drones by the participants of the boot camp, it further said.
Meanwhile, IIIT Manipur director called on Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla along with Manipur Police Housing Corporation (MPHC) Limited MD and chief engineer on Wednesday, during which the progress of construction works of IIIT's new campus was reviewed, another release by IIIT Manipur stated.
