Imphal, May 19 2024:
Manipur Network of Positive People (MNP+) observed state level International AIDS Candlelight Memorial at the conference hall of MNP+ in Yaiskul Hiruhanba Leikai on Sunday.
Held under the theme "Together We Remember, Together We Heal, Together Love and Solidarity' under the joint sponsorship of PATH, CDC and MACS, the observance was attended by Manipur AIDS Control Society (MACS) deputy directors (Basic Service & STI) Dr Deepali Nameirakpam and (SI & BTS) Dr Haorungbam Teresa as invitees.
In his speech, MNP+ vice president W Surmik observed that instances of stigma and discrimination faced by HIV positive people are decreasing with change in people's perception, sensitisation and understanding of the condition, mainly due to efforts of those who have died or are still living with HIV/AIDS in making the masses aware about rights and plight of the infected persons.
As part of the observance, a two-minute silence and a candle light vigil was held in honour of all those who fell victims to HIV/AIDS.
