Women's self-defence training concludes

A 17-day women's self-defence training programme concluded on Thursday at Mount Everest College, Senapati, Organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Women's Cell of the College in collaboration with the Directorate of University and Higher Education, the programme aims to equip women with the skills and confidence needed to protect themselves in real-life situations.
The training, which began on 1 April, saw participation of over 80 female students and faculty members.
It covered basic and advanced self-defence techniques, situational awareness, risk assessment, legal awareness, and confidence-building strategies.

The closing ceremony featured a demonstration by the trainees, showcasing the techniques they had learned.
In his address, academic dean Dr Roshan Shagolsem highlighted the importance of self-defence as a fundamental right and a vital tool for women navigating an often unsafe world.
He emphasised that such training promotes awareness, resilience, and empowerment, fostering both physical and mental strength.
IQAC coordinator Niomchung Jatak Chiru noted that the programme also focused on emotional and spiritual well-being, while building a supportive community for participants.
The initiative aims to expand its reach, partnering with other organisations to empower more women across the region.
The IQAC coordinator expressed gratitude to the Directorate of University & Higher Education, Combat Athletics Training Academy (CATA), District Health Society Senapati, One Stop Centre Senapati, and all participants for their contributions to the success of the programme.
