Imphal, February 13 2025:
Declaring its commitment to firm face any forces posing threat to integrity of Manipur, Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL) has warned against any attempt to distort the state by any indigenous community settling in the land.
In a statement addressed to both the state and central governments amidst the changing political dynamics and suffering of the people, KKL said it along with the people will fight steadfastly against any forces trying to distort Manipur.
While recalling the forcible signing of the Manipur Merger Agreement in 1949, the KKL statement, issued by general secretary Luwangcha U Lamkheingakpa, said that the Centre might repent for mistreatment of people of Manipur in case there is mass movement with support of the global fraternity.
The KKL statement further said that Meetei community must be given constitutional safeguard just as the Government of India guarantees protection to smaller and minority communities.
Apart from this, Meetei community must be allowed free movement as per Article 19(1) of Indian Constitution at the earliest and all land routes must be opened immediately with adequate security measures.
The organisation also urged the Government of India to take immediate action against illegal immigrants by implementing the National Register of Citizens.
While asserting that many patriotic youth were compelled to take up arms and guard the fringe villages after the state government and the Centre failed to take timely action when illegal immigrants attacked Meetei villages, the KKL statement said that the Centre should not overlook the harsh situation of village volunteers and instead give them protection.
