Locals oppose deployment of AR in Leimaram

Bishnupur, May 12 2024: Locals of Leimaram Waroiching under Oinam assembly constituency denounced withdrawal of GR and their replacement with Assam Rifles, while urging the chief minister to deploy state forces instead.

During a meeting organised by Leimaram Yaipha Lamjing Lup at Leimaram Mayai Leikai community hall on Sunday, Leimaram Heinoubok Waroiching Women's Joint Committee president N Sumila accused the AR of inaction against Kuki militants since outbreak of the on-going ethnic conflict.

Addressing the meeting attended by locals under Konthoujam, Oinam and Nambol assembly constituencies, she denounced the authorities' move to deploy AR by pulling out 6 GR from the area.

Stating that the people have completely lost their trust in the AR, she lamented that deployment of AR poses serious threat to safety and security of the Meetei villagers.

Demanding that authorities concerned station 6 GR, state forces or any central forces other than AR, she cautioned that the people of three assembly constituencies will launch agitations if the government authorities ignore public sentiment and their demand.
