Bishnupur, June 09 2024:
Coordinating Committee of Clubs, Organisations and Meira Paibi Lup Keinou Gram Panchayat has urged the government of India to refrain from alleged scheming of proxy war by inciting conflicts among different communities, while cautioning that such actions could escalate and lead to demands for Manipur to revert to its pre-merger status.
Addressing media persons at its Keinou office, on Sunday, Committee's assistant secretary N Johnson contended that the government of India has been engaging in proxy warfare by fueling conflicts among various communities residing in the state and attempting to marginalise the indigenous communities in the state which has a history of over 5000 years.
Moreover, he expressed dissatisfaction over the central forces' inability to protect the Meetei community's properties, which have suffered damage in the ongoing conflict in Jiribam.
If such seemingly partisan attitude and conduct persist, possibility of the people of Manipur demanding return to its pre-merger status cannot be ruled out, he maintained.
Committee's finance secretary Ch Ajitkumar, who was also present during the press conference, urged authorities concerned to implement measures effective enough to contain the conflict in the state.
He also pointed out the need of creating a conducive environment that would allow Manipur to join the race of development and progress as the other states.
