Special Judge, Prevention of Corruption Imphal West, has framed charges against L Dorendro (Assistant Registrar of NIT Manipur) s/o (L) Nabakumar of Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak under 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988, today, apart from fixing May 22 for the hearing of the first prosecution witness.
On January 3 this year, Anti Corruption Bureau, CBI, Imphal, submitted charge sheet against Dorendro for alleged possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income following which Special Judge Prevention of Corruption Imphal West summoned Dorendro in connection with the case.
The charge hearing against Dorendro was held on March 26 and on that day, the Court heard both parties at length and fixed today for the charge order.
The Court order mentioned that as per the prosecution story, on October 1, 2016, a CBI team conducted a raid at the residence of L Dorendro for possession of assets disproportionate to his income.
During the investigation, the period from February 17, 2012 to October 1, 2016, was considered as the check period for the purpose of calculating the income, assets and expenditure of the accused.
It continued that Dorendro joined NIT Manipur as Assistant Registrar on February 17, 2012 and he was functioning as DDO of the Institute until he was relieved from duty as DDO on October 10, 2016 .
The investigation further revealed that at the beginning of the check period, on February 17, 2012, assets amounting to Rs 7,58,453 were in the name of Dorendro and his wife but at the check period of October 10, 2016, assets amounting to Rs 1,58,68,174 were found in possession of the accused and his family.
The Special PP of CBI submitted that the accused was found in possession of huge assets disproportionate to his known sources of income and he could not satisfactorily account for the said assets.
A such the CBI prayed for framing charges against L Dorendro.
On the other hand, the defense counsel of Dorendro submitted that no material evidences were made out against Dorendro and as such, prayed for discharging him from the case.
However, after going through all the records and the statement of the witnesses, the Court framed charge against Dorendro and fixed the date for the hearing of the first prosecution witness on May 22 after the accused pleaded not guilty and claimed for a trial.
