Moirang, February 21 2025:
Womenfolk in Bishnupur have urged Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla to facilitate the implementation of the National Register of Citizens in Manipur and withdrawal of the Separate Administration demand within seven days if the Meetei village volunteers are to surrender their arms.
Today, a sit-in protest was staged against imposition of President's Rule in Manipur at Kumbi Keithel by the people of Kumbi and adjacent villages.
Placards with inscriptions "Withdraw PR" and "Don't arrest village volunteers" among others.
Speaking to the media on the sideline of the protest, social activist Jaya Khangembam said that the Governor's appeal for surrendering arms will not be accepted if the Kukis are not held accountable for their actions.
She urged the Governor to implement NRC in Manipur immediately, arrest the armed Kuki miscreants with evidence and let the Kukis drop their demand for Separate Administration if the village volunteers are expected to surrender their arms.
Saying that arresting village volunteers randomly is unacceptable, Jaya said that village volunteers should not be arrested as long as the demand for Separate Administration by the Kuki community remains in place.
Make the illegal Kuki immigrants and armed Kuki volunteers surrender first with evidence, she urged while adding that the conflict in Manipur, afterall, was designed by Kuki miscreants.
She, meanwhile, urged the Centre to withdraw PR from Manipur by appointing a new Chief Minister within seven days.
There will be a massive public movement if a new Government is not installed in Manipur within a week, she cautioned.
