Murder of Dr Kishan & Co : Public meet wants death penalty for killers

Imphal, January 15 2014 : A public congregation held today at Ma-pari Ningshingkon near Chei- rap Court complex here de-manded that all the culprits in- volved in the gruesome murder of Dr Kishan, Token and Rajen should be awarded death penalty.

The public congregation was held after the Patiala House Court (CBI Court) an-nounced that the final verdict of the triple murder case would be announced on January 18 .

Majority of the speakers were of the view that the murderers of Dr Kishan, Rajen and Token deserved capital punishment.

They further asserted that people should chal- lenge the Court verdict in case it goes against the common expectation.

Dr Kishan, Token and Rajen were abducted from Hundung Gate, Ukhrul on February 13, 2009 and they were found murdered in the most brutal manner at Taphou in Senapati district on February 17, 2009 .

People who attended the congregation also paid floral tributes to the photographs of Dr Kishan, Rajen and Token put up at the memorial site.

Speaking at the gathering, Y Kapu, convenor of the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Dr Kishan, Token and Rajen recalled that people and the JAC undertook a number of protest demonstrations for se-veral months demanding pu- nishment of all the culprits involved in the triple murder case according to law.

The Patiala House Court would announce final verdict of the case on January 18 and this is an outcome of the JAC's and people's relentless struggle for justice during the last five years.

It was the JAC which first made it public that the triple murder was planned and executed by NSCN-IM.

At first, NSCN-IM denied involvement of any of its men in the gruesome murders.

Then the JAC launched a poster campaign declaring NSCN-IM as a terrorist organisation.

Ultimately, NSCN-IM sta-ted that the triple murder was committed by its S/S Lt Col Hopeson Ningshen in cahoot with S/S Maj Abo Sibo, S/S Maj Ashang and S/S Cpl Joh-ny.

NSCN-IM also issued a press statement informing that Hopeson Ningshen has been sentenced to prison for 10 years.

In the meantime, the State Government handed over the case to CBI.

Then NSCN-IM handed over Hopeson Ningshen to CBI through Naga Hoho on May 28, 2009 .

After a petition was filed at the Supreme Court, the case was transferred from Ukhrul to CBI Court, Delhi.

CBI registered a case (RC 223(S)/2009 IPS) and started due investigation.

The CBI Court held 70 rounds of hearing and 62 witnesses were examined.

Defence counsels too examined three witnesses�� Hopeson Ningshen's wife, Tihar Jail SP and Shimray Artax, over a period of seven days.

The final hearing and argument lasted for 12 days.

It was during the last round of hearing held on December 19, 2013 that the Court reserved it final verdict for January 18, Kapu said.

Thingnam Surendra, father of late Kishan filed a case at Manipur High Court saying the then Ukhrul DC Pankaj Kumar Pal was also involved in the triple murder case.

The case is now in its final stage, conveyed the JAC convenor.

Father of Social Worker Th Iboyaima said that it would not be right to be very happy just because the CBI Court would announce its final verdict very soon.

It would be in the fitness of things to study in advance what would be people's position if the Court verdict goes against common expectation, Iboyaima said.

AMKIL president Sakhi opined that all the culprits deserve capital punishment considering the way how they hacked to death the three innocent persons.

They should be hung to death, she asserted.

Observing that the Court is ready to announce its final judgement on account of the JAC's sustained movement , PANDM president Yumnamcha Dillipkumar remarked that this a big achievement of the JAC.

He too maintained that death penalty is the most befitting punishment for cold blooded murders.

The JAC has shown that perseverance always pays at the end, stated AMUCO president Y Mani.

HERICOUN president Churamani said that murder of Kishan, Token and Rajen was no ordinary murder.

It was a well planned criminal act of most savage nature.

They were abducted and killed at Ukhrul before abandoning their bodies in a Kuki village.

The murder was designed to create conflict between Meiteis and Kukis.

People found guilty for such sinister and well planned murders should not be let off with some ordinary punishment.

Apart from CBI Court's punishment, NSCN-IM too should punish their rogue officers.
