Imphal/Kangpokpi, October 07 2026: Three abandoned houses were burnt down by unknown persons today at Kailenjang village, located at the border of Kangpokpi and Senapati districts.

A group of unknown persons came to Kailenjang village at around 2.30 pm today and burnt down the three abandoned houses, sources said.

Residents of the surrounding villages said that they heard gunfire in and around Kailenjang at around 2 pm .

Two platoons of CRPF are reportedly deployed in the area, one at Kailenjang and the other at the village just below it.

Soon after the incident, a team of Senapati district police and Central armed forces rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation.

Even though there is no report of any injury during the incident, the situation is quite tense in the area.

In view of the tense situation, strong security measures have been put in place so as to prevent any further unwanted incidents in the area.

Notably, suspected Kuki militants killed two Naga civilians at Kailenjang village on September 26, 2026 and inflicted injuries to two others.

One of the injured victims succumbed to the injuries the next day.

The deceased persons were identified as Rocky Mao of Chowainamei Khullen, Kumar Poumai of Laii Shirafii village and Ashiho Sani of Shajouba village.

Kailenjang is located about 10 Kms West of Senapati district headquarters in the hills above Taphou village.

The settlement has remained largely deserted since the September 26 attack in which three Naga civilians were killed.

Security officials suspect possible involvement of armed elements in Wednesday's arson but the allegation has not been independently established.

The reported firing is also being verified.
