As announced earlier, environmental activist Manikanta Mutum has kick-started his campaign (solo walk) to meet the 40 MLAs of the five valley districts and share his idea to combat climate change, today.
During his campaign, Manikanta will meet the MLAs one after another and submit a two point memorandum to them.
Certification of people who plant and nurture the growth of a tree and making the tree plantation certificate a mandatory document to apply for Government jobs are the agendas listed in his memorandum.
The solo walk was flagged off by Arambai Tenggol leader Korounganba Khuman from Awang Sekmai.
One the first day, Manikanta met Social Welfare Minister H Dingo and submitted his memorandum.
It is said that he will meet Lamshang MLA S Rajen tomorrow.
Speaking to the media, Manikanta said that all forms of conflict among humans will end eventually but the environmental conflict will persist.
He said that he decided to carry out his campaign to share his ideas to combat climate change with the elected representatives and ensure its implementation.
Give certificates and grace marks to students who take part in tree plantation activities and make those certificates a qualifying document to apply for a Government job, he suggested.
Stating that he didn't get any sponsorship for the campaign, Manikanta appealed to all clubs and meira paibi lups to extend support to him while coming to meet their elected representatives.
