NPP opposes Waqf Act

Imphal, April 10 2025:
The National People's Party (NPP) State unit has decided to seek intervention from its party president, Conrad Sangma, to demand repeal of the controversial Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025 .
Speaking to the media, vice president of NPP, Manipur Urikhinbam Ramesh said that the legislation has been disapproved by the people of Islam faith across the country.
Expressing disapproval of the Act, he reminded that the Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, was also repealed on December 1, 2021 following a massive protest by the farmers.
He also exuded confidence that the Waqf (Amendment) Act will be repealed.
Ramesh added he will mount pressure on Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to oppose the legislation.
