Imphal, November 06 2026:
Just days before Ningol Chakkouba Festival, a young married woman of 23 was allegedly found hanging at her residence at Mayang Imphal Bazar, under Mayang Imphal police station, Imphal West yesterday.
The deceased woman has been identified as Lourembam ongbi Manda (23) .
Originally from Heirok, Manda was married to Lourembam Kiyamba of Mayang Imphal Bazar.
She was allegedly found hanging in her own bedroom yesterday noon and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was declared "brought dead" by doctors.
Registering a case of unnatural death for investigation, Mayang Imphal police had brought the body to RIMS for postmortem yesterday.

With her maternal family at Heirok raising suspicion of involvement of the husband, locals held a meeting today and later staged a protest in front of the Mayang Imphal police station demanding arrest of those responsible for the death.
As tension flared up, additional security forces were rushed to the area to bring the situation under control.
The security forces fired tear gas shells and mock bombs to disperse the protesters.
A Joint Action Committee formed in connection with the death has meanwhile given the authorities concerned three days to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and arrest persons responsible for the death.
In case the authorities concerned fail to form SIT and arrest all those responsible within 3 days, the JAC along with the people may launch stringent agitation, said JAC convenor Dhamen Moirangthem.
The JAC and the family will not claim the body until the case is solved, Dhamen said.
