The deceased has been identified as Jenika Sapam, d/o Sapam Khelendra of Sapam Maning Leikai and she was a Class VI student at Ibemhal Visal Academy, Sapam while the killer has been identified as Sapan Sarat (45) s/o late Kalachand of Sapam Sabal Leikai and he reportedly has a history of being violent even to his family members.
It is said that Jenika was first taken to Thoubal district hospital and from there she was referred to Shija Hospitals but she succumbed to the injuries.
The corpse has been claimed by the family after an autopsy at JNIMS mortuary.
According to reports culled from the spot, the incident came to light after a young boy who saw the spine-chilling incident rush-ed to his house and alerted his family and people in the neighbourhood.
The girl was found lying unconscious on the road when people came out and the 'killer' was rounded up while he was heading towards the eastern side of the road from the spot, as per the locals.
The 'killer' was then rounded up by the locals and beaten black and blue before the police arrested him.

In connection with the 'murder', a Joint Action Committee (JAC) has been formed and they have listed a series of demands to the Government.
The JAC demanded that Sarat should be given capital punishment within 24 hours.

A late report, however, said that the body has been claimed after coming to terms with Khongjom police.
Meanwhile, a large number of students of Ibemhal Visal Academy staged a sit-in protest at Khongjom Bazar against the murder.
The students displayed inscriptions such as "Penalise the killer within 24 hours," and "Justice for Jenika Sapam" among others.
