Imphal, May 03 2025:
Advocating unity of Manipur, the All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) has stated that Kuki Zo people observing May 3 as 'Separation Day' is a futile endeavour, likening it to the ramblings of frustrated people.
AMUCO, in a press release issued by secretary publicity Heisnam Phorel Mangang, also said that attempts to disintegrate Manipur by armed and civil groups, allegedly aided by the Government of India's double standards, will inevitably fail.
The large turnout today to pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for Manipur's unity is a testament to the people's unwavering commitment to protect the State, AMUCO asserted.
Saying that different communities pursuing exclusive ideologies is detrimental to Manipur's unity, the Organisation urged the people to resist the alleged divisive policies of the Government of India (GoI) .
AMUCO also advised the people of every community to avoid conflicts that would leave no winner.
It further said that Kuki-Zo groups' push for Separate Administration, under the guise of protesting the Manipur High Court's directive on May 3, 2023, regarding demand for ST for Meitei community, reveals a hidden agenda.
AMUCO also said that the Churachandpur DC giving permission to the Kuki-Zo people to observe 'Separation Day' will undermine peace talks under the Ministry of Home Affairs and spark further unrest.
Despite Union Home Minister Amit Shah's clear stance against entertaining demands to disintegrate Manipur, the Churachandpur DC approved the Kuki-Zo community's 'Separation Day' observance, AMUCO pointed out and asked if the Churachandpur DC is above the Union Home Minister.
AMUCO questioned whether the Churachandpur DC obtained approval from higher authorities for the 'Separation Day' permission, suggesting that if so, it would imply the Government of India is dismantling Manipur which is under President's Rule.
Asking why the Governor is not putting in efforts to prevent actions which can create further unrest, the Organisation added that the authorities have shown little effort to resolve the crisis in Manipur despite the imposition of President's Rule (PR) since February 13, 2025 .
People had hoped PR would heal Manipur but the authorities' actions seem futile and unlikely to resolve the crisis even in a century, AMUCO asserted.
The Kuki-Zo community observes 'Separation Day' annually from May 3, 2024, marking the 2023 ATSUM rally - attended by armed militants - as the starting point for their Separate Administration demand, driven by a separatist agenda, it said and added that the High Court directive was just a camouflage to stage the rally.
AMUCO questioned how the Deputy Commissioners allowed a rally against a ruling of the High Court on the same day Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar visited Manipur.
Further asking why the Government didn't revoke the permission and take action even after armed Kuki-Zo militants' participation in the rally in Churachandpur was exposed and the rallyists started attacking Meitei civilians, AMUCO said that Manipur has been going through a tumultuous period since May 3, 2023.AMUCO said that Churachandpur SP and DC offices were attacked by Kuki-Zo people post-May 3, 2023 while Kangpokpi SP sustained injuries in another attack, but no befitting actions have been taken so far.
Raising questions about the applicability of law in Kuki-Zo dominated areas, AMUCO urged the Governor to act neutrally and resolve the crisis in Manipur.
Asking if the Governor will remain passive about the Kuki-Zo community's 'Separation Day' observance or take action to prevent further unrest, AMUCO added that the Governor's response will reveal his stance on ending the crisis.
