Civil Secretariat likely to see light of day in May

The Civil Secretariat construction work at Chingmeirong, part of the Capitol Project, is making progress under President's Rule and is expected to finish by early May (first week).
The Civil Secretariat's construction started under Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh's tenure which gave the work order to M/S Simplex Project.
Other Capitol Project components, including the High Court and State Assembly, were completed during the Congress Government's term.
The Capitol Project's initial estimated cost was Rs 317 crore, which was later revised to Rs 1,081.89 crore (Rs 738.4 crore for Civil Secretariat).
The Civil Secretariat's construction was halted in 2019 and later entrusted to M/s Avantika (I) Ltd, which executed the work from 2021 to 2023.During the project's execution, Rs 282.6 crore was spent under M/S Simplex Project, and Rs 167.40 crore was spent under M/s Avantika (I) Ltd.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, Chief Engineer of Public Works Department (PWD) N Subhas stated that three contractors have been entrusted to complete the Civil Secretariat including furnishing, and they are working round the clock by engaging over 500 workers.
He added that they aim to complete the construction by the first week of May, with the Works Commissioner regularly inspecting the site on the Governor's and Chief Secretary's directives.
The construction is 98 per cent complete, with only finishing touches like painting, electrical fittings, and sewage treatment plant commissioning remaining, the Chief Engineer said.
Saying that the Civil Secretariat has three blocks namely the Ministerial Block, North Block and South Block, Subhas said that the Ministerial Block will house offices and rooms for the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and Cabinet Ministers, among others.
The North and South Blocks will have conference halls and 62 rooms designated for the Chief Secretary and other administrative heads, he said.
