Imphal, February 28 2025:
After surrendering a huge number of arms, ammunition and explosives to the Government on February 27, 2025, the Arambai Tenggol (AT) has appealed to the Government to reconstruct all the sacred sites and shrines of the Meitei community which have been desecrated and destroyed by Kukis in the course of their sustained aggression, and enable Meiteis go on pilgrimage to these holy places.
As a part of offering prayer at sacred sites on the first day of every Manipuri calendar month, a large number of AT members including its students' wing members congregated at the sacred Kangla today and offered prayer there.
Today is the first day of the Manipuri calendar month Lamta.
AT Unit 38 commander Chongtham Romeo appealed to all the Meitei people to assemble together at their respective localities at least once in a month on the first day of every Manipuri calendar month to deliberate on the welfare of the Meitei community and the whole State at large.
Assembly of people at Umang Lai premises or other convenient places to discuss development and other matters has been already introduced at some places, he said.
He then appealed to all the Meitei people to make this gathering at local level on the first day of every Manipuri calendar month an inviolable tradition or convention.
Romeo further appealed to all the Meitei people not to ever overlook or neglect this tradition or undermine the importance of deliberating on the community's welfare at least once in a month, if not every day.
AT is basically a cultural organisation dedicated to preserving the indigenous faith and culture.
Although it took up arms for sometime as compelled by the situation, AT laid down weapons on Thursday.
AT was forced to take up arms as the integrity of Manipur and its territorial boundary were challenged, and the Meitei community came under premeditated and relentless attacks, Romeo said.
Now AT will focus on preserving and promoting the indigenous faith, restoration of peace and development of the whole State, he said.
The AT unit commander appealed to the Government to see that Meiteis can go to and offer prayer at all major sacred sites like the Koubru, Thangjing, Kondong Lairembi, Kongba Maru, Chingdai Khellemba etc without any sense of insecurity.
He further appealed to the Government to reconstruct all the sacred sites and shrines which have been desecrated and destroyed by Kukis.
