Atleast two women sustained injuries when cops cracked down on supporters of the bandh called by the JAC in Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Constituency today in protest against the move being made by the Government to take over additional land for expansion and upgradation of the Tulihal Airport here to international standard.
The bandh was enforced from 4 am to 6 pm today.
Since early morning bandh supporters came out in large number at Malom and Langthabal area to enforce the bandh along with scattering broken glasses to prevent movement of vehicles on the roads, thus prompting the police personnel to fire rubber bullets and tear gas canisters to disperse them.
In the ensuing melee, two women protestors sustained rubber bullet injuries.
The two women who have been admitted for treatment at RIMS Hospital are identified as Chongtham Ongbi Ibeni (32) and Soibam Bimola (17), both residents of Ningombam.
Ibeni sustained injuries on her ankles and upper left knee while Bimola on her left hand.
On account of the bandh, vehicles stayed off from Tiddim Road today, though flight service at the Tulihal airport was normal.
