A Hyundai Santro car allotted for official use to Chairperson of Lamlai Nagar Panchayat Elangbam Mangi (62) of Lamlai Bazar but sold
on the sly by a Councillor of the same local body has been recovered by a team of Lamlai police station led by its Officer in-charge Inspector Vincent today.
The Councillor identified as Laikhuram Rajeswar (32) s/o (L) Kanta of Chalou Makha Leikai has also been arrested by the police along with the purchaser.
The Santro car is informed to be light blue in colour bearing registration No MN01/ 0486.The vehicle was reportedly sold off to one Ngangom Dimjit (30) s/o Ng Achou of Lalambung Makhong Takhellambam Leikai on November 27, 2007 at Rs 1.54 lakh.
Based on a case registered with Lamlai police station the police team pulled up Dimjit from his house at around 8.30 am today while the accused Rajeswar was netted at around 10 am from his own residence.
After both were produced before the Court of the bChief Judicial Magistrate (Imphal East), Lamphelpat wherein Ng Dimjit pleaded innocence of the car being sold off without proper authorisation, the purchaser had been freed on bail.
Meanwhile, L Rajeswar has been remanded to police custody till April 3 .
