Beneficiaries of the NGOs in the State listed for implementation of the UJJAWALA scheme already launched by the Govt of India to financially rehabilitate commercial sex workers in the country have urged for forwarding the list to the authorities concerned for proper implementation of the scheme.
Addressing a press conference in this connection at Manipur Press Club here today, the beneficiaries of the listed NGOs informed that the said scheme was formally launched by the Government of India on December 4
last year.
For first phase of the scheme, NGOs based in nine districts of the State applied but the authorities concerned selected only two NGOs based in two districts namely Chandel and Senapati.
For the second phase, 61 NGOs have applied out of which 27 NGOs 3 each based in Tamenglong, Imphal East, Imphal West, Churachandpur, Ukhrul, Thoubal and Bishnupur districts have been selected by the State Level Selection Committee.
However, the list of the selected NGOs is yet been forwarded to the authorities concerned.
