Imphal, March 24 2024:
The clarification made by Education (S) and Higher & Technical Edu cation regarding pre-primary recruitment is an eyewash, alleged Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) while urging the education minister, commissioner and director concerned to frame pre-primary policy within a month's time or face shut down of pre-nursery, nursery and KG classes in government, aided and private schools.
In a release, DESAM secretary general Nongthombam Thoithoiba said that under the NEP-2020, students of pre-primary level should be taught in their respective mother tongue, instead of training the teachers for the said purpose.
However, statement of the education director that there is no course for training of pre- primary teachers in Manipur clearly indicates that the director is an irresponsible person.
It is also very unfortunate that the education department instead of training pre-primary teachers, started recruitment process of pre-primary teachers yet another testament that the department is corrupted, DESAM charged and added that pre-primary education is the most important stage one should get which the education minister, commissioner and director should be aware about.
Maintaining that pre-nursery, nursery and KG classes are being opened in many government and private schools without authentication and trained teachers, the release said that education minister, commissioner and director should initiate process to frame a state policy of pre-primary within a period of one month failing which all the pre-nursery, nursery and KG classes in government, aided and private schools will be closed.
DESAM also considers that the clarification by education additional director over recruitment of contract, part time or guest teachers in professional college like DMCTE is against all existing norms of NCTE and is very unfortunate.
In his clarification, the director also stated that there is only one teacher for education subject in DMCTE having 400 students, no teacher for Manipuri subject and only one teacher for English subject.
Contending that the director is making false statement, the DESAM secretary contended that a person not aware of the man-in position of the college cannot be a responsible person of the directorate.
Therefore, the commissioner and the director should be sacked immediately failing which DESAM will complain to the NCTE highlighting unwanted issues crippling the education department, the release warned.
The release while expressing contentment over the concern shown by the education minister and officers concerned in connection with shortage of teachers in educational institutions, said that the shortage of teaching and non-teaching staff and librarians should be filled up before commencement of the academic session failing which DESAM along with students community will shut down all departments concerned permanently.
