Pao Leo Day celebrated at Purul Atongba village

Pao Leo Day was celebrated on Friday at Purul Atongba village in Senapati district under the theme 'Honouring our common heritage'.
The event was inaugurated by Nagaland MLA and leader of NPF Legislature Party Kuzholuzo Azo Nienu in the presence of Karong MLA J Kumo Sha, Tenyimi Union and Dimapur president Vekhosayi Nyekha among others.
As the chief guest, Azo Nienu said although there are Nagas in Nagaland, Manipur, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Myanmar and beyond, the Nagas are one and can be a big family if all come together.
The MLA said that Nagaland state assembly had earlier passed eight resolutions to unite the Nagas but the same is yet to fructify.
It is time for the Nagas in Manipur, Assam, Arunachal to voice out diplomatically apart from what the Nagaland assembly has been doing to bring the Nagas under one family, exhorted the chief guest, while urging the Nagas to forgive and forget the bitter past for a common future.
In his welcome address, Lep-aona Naga Union president V Thaisii said that Pao Leo Day was first celebrated at Koide (Naamai) village in 1998 in honour of progenitor LEO (Lu-o) with all the 29 Lepaona villages participating the event.
The second festival was celebrated at Thingba Khullen (Chaonamai village) in 2008.After a gap of 17 years, Pao Leo Day is being celebrated and hosted by Huduna (Purul Atongba and Purul RosofU village) with the theme 'Honouring our common heritage' this year.
In his address at the event, MLA Kumo Sha lauded the Lepaona, a sub-circle of the Pou-mai Naga community, to have gathered in a grand manner to celebrate Pao Leo Day.
He appealed the Lepaona community to lead the Poumai Naga community with their broad mind even in future.
According to MLA Kumo Sha, the world is changing very fast due to advancement of technology and the present global situation demands intelligence and knowledge as wealth and success will always follow if one has intelligence and knowledge.
The society also demands intelligence and knowledge to improve and there could be no unity and progress without intelligence and knowledge.
Different cultural items were displayed during the event with competitions on different cultural items.
